Seven juniors filed paperwork with an NFL committee to gauge their draft stock, but most are expected to return, especially after the feedback projected only defensive end Phillip Merling and tailback James Davis as first-day selections. Merling presents the biggest threat for departure. As expected, he garnered the most attractive grade — as high as a second-round pick — which might be enough to convince him first-round dollars are within reach. Rest assured, Bowden will play the Gaines Adams card when they meet to discuss options early this week. The real news might be whether Clemson retains its coaching staff. Defensive coordinator Vic Koenning's name continues to circulate in speculation around coaching circles, and there is industry rumor Koenning would be contacted for the LSU vacancy if former Georgia Tech coordinator Jon Tenuta is not Les Miles' guy to replace Bo Pelini.
